ST. LOUIS - As ice and snow begin to accumulate on roadways across the St. Louis region, driving has become more treacherous, and conditions will only worsen throughout the day Sunday.

Accumulations are expected to quickly build through the morning, and by early afternoon the heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain will continue. By 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., the winter mix will become lighter and patchy for several hours into the evenings.

By Sunday night, the backside of the winter storm will arrive with gust winds, and the snow is expected to end before sunrise.

The St. Louis area has primarily seen snow, sleet, and freezing rain as of Sunday morning. The area can expect more snow throughout the day.

Thundersnow and some lighting have been reported in areas across the St. Louis region with heavy snow and sleet. In various rural areas, such as Farmington, some slush buildup has already been reported.
