Ribbon cutting celebrates La Salle Institute's 175th anniversary

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A local school celebrated a special milestone on Friday. A ribbon cutting was held at La Salle Institute in Troy in recognition of the school's 175th anniversary.

The school was founded in 1850 in South Troy to provide an education to the children of immigrants. It moved to a new location in 1966 and welcomed female students in 2021.

School Pres. Dr. Kevin Calacone said the school's mission remains the same.

"But the story of La Salle Institute for 175 years is educating students in a loving, caring and supportive environment," he said. "With acknowledgement and honor, to truth, honor and duty. That's our plan for the next 175 years."

The school currently has more than 500 students and about 40 full-time faculty members.
