Rensselaer Common Council votes to eliminate Jason Schofield's position

RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rensselaer City Common Council held a special meeting Wednesday where they overrode a mayoral veto to eliminate the job of embattled city clerk Jason Schofield.
The council voted 5 to 2 to abolish Schofield's city clerk position earlier in the month, but Mayor Mike Stammel vetoed the council's decision on Oct. 11.
Schofield was hired by the mayor for the open clerk position months after Schofield's guilty plea to ballot fraud. The council previously cut Schofield's salary to $100 after the city council president claims the council did not know the mayor had hired him.
