CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is being nudged in the direction of removing tolls on State Route 125 (SR-125) in the South Bay. But will this happen?
The push to remove the polls is backed by several residents, along with local leaders like Councilmember Vivian Moreno, Assemblymember David Alvarez, Chula Vista Mayor John McCann, and Councilmember Carolina Chavez. They are set to gather Thursday morning to call on SANDAG to hear their concerns.
This comes after a recent audit flaws in the toll system, including issues with inaccurate billing. Despite these findings, SANDAG approved a new contract with similar toll operational concerns.
Now, Councilmember Moreno is demanding the removal of SR-125 tolls to "ensure equity" for South Bay residents and alleviate congestion on local roadways that local motorists are forced to use.
