Public outcry turns into action; Elliot Davis returns to see results

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – After a public outcry and years of pressure from FOX 2 News, action is underway in a St. Charles County neighborhood with sinking homes.
FOX Files investigator Chris Hayes has been on this case after being passed the baton by an investigative reporter you’ll remember from You Paid For It. Elliott Davis returned to the scene to talk to us about his years of work on behalf of homeowners.
“What’s it like seeing this work get underway?” we asked Elliott.
“Chris, it was worth coming out of retirement to see these residents get justice,” Elliot said
There’s major progress in the Heritage subdivision of St. Charles County after nearly four years of FOX 2 reporting on sinking homes.
“It’s been a long time coming,” resident Dan Fitzgerald said.
Stabilization work by both county and state is underway after stormwater problems led to homes sliding down the ravine.
“I’ve seen two of my neighbors lose their home,” Tara Rath said.
Rath’s was possibly next.
“This has been a huge help getting FOX 2 involved,” she said. “Between the county representatives, the state representatives, and just continuing to see that go up the ladder, I mean, that was huge.”
Former FOX 2 veteran reporter Elliot Davis came out to see the progress.
“It’s just my honor to really be involved in this,” Davis said. “For years, it was certainly one of my biggest stories.”
Davis’ reports began in 2021. He did not want to miss out on reuniting with the citizens who stood up for themselves.
Coming up on FOX 2 News at 9 p.m., you’ll see the solution, which St. Charles County leaders say was only possible with state involvement. You’ll also hear from homeowners and Elliot Davis, and what they believe made the difference in their fight.
