RED HOOK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Poughkeepsie man has been arraigned in the death of 25-year-old Bard College graduate student Linh Hong Nguyen. The Dutchess County District Attorney's Office said Rohan Patrick, 40, has been charged with criminally negligent homicide in her death.

Around 10:30 p.m. on May 25, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash along Route 9 in Red Hook. Patrick allegedly drove onto the sidewalk, hitting Nguyen. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This tragic accident has resulted in the loss of a life, and no words can fully express the sorrow felt by the family and the community," said Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi. "After a thorough investigation, we have determined that the actions leading to this tragedy were not just an unfortunate mistake, but a case of criminally negligent homicide. While no legal outcome can bring back the life lost, we are committed to holding those responsible accountable for their actions and ensuring that justice is served in the wake of this devastating event."

Patrick has been remanded to jail without bail. His next court date is set for December 19.
