Police warn of jury duty scam circulating around Boulder
The Boulder Police Department is warning residents not to fall for a jury duty scam.
DENVER (KDVR) — The Boulder Police Department is warning residents not to fall for a jury duty scam that is recirculating.
The police department said it has received at least three reports from community members about the scam this week.
Similar scam tactics have been used for over a decade and have been reported in Douglas, Denver and Jefferson County this year.
According to police, scammers pose as law enforcement and call people claiming that they have an arrest warrant, telling the targeted victim that they will be arrested for not showing up for jury duty.
"Scammers are also saying the person has another type of warrant and then demand money, usually via a wire transfer, to 'take care of' the situation," the police department said in a post on Facebook.
Scammers demand money in a variety of ways, from Zelle payments to Bitcoin to Coinstar gift cards.
The police department emphasized that local law enforcement agencies will never do this and said anyone who is concerned can contact their local courthouse to see if they have a warrant.
