Police Patrols Stepped Up at Mosques and Synagogues After Suspicious Package Found in Balboa Park
"After a thorough investigation, it was determined this was a hoax type of device and there was no danger to the public," SDPD said.
San Diego police are increasing patrols near mosques and synagogues throughout the city this weekend after a suspicious package was found near House of Israel in Balboa Park.
The San Diego Police Department received a call regarding the package at around 9:30 Saturday morning.
“A package was located at the back of the building which led officers to request additional resources,” the SDPD said.
“The Metro Arson Strike Team and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Bomb Squad responded to investigate. The immediate area was evacuated and a sweep for any additional packages was conducted.
“After a thorough investigation, it was determined this was a hoax type of device and there was no danger to the public.
“SDPD’s Criminal Intelligence Unit is continually monitoring locally and nationally for any actionable intel regarding threats,” the department added.
“Out of an abundance of caution, SDPD will be conducting additional patrols to the area as well as near mosques and synagogues throughout the City for at least the next week to ensure the safety of all.”
Anyone with information related to the package was asked to call the Metro Arson Strike Team at (619) 236-6815 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
