Police: 1 dead after shootout with Aurora PD, no officers injured
An 18-year-old suspect died after a shootout involving police early Sunday morning, according to the Aurora Police Department.
DENVER (KDVR) — An 18-year-old suspect died after a shootout involving police early Sunday morning, according to the Aurora Police Department.
According to police, around 11:15 p.m., a resident in the 1900 block of South Vaughn Way reported an argument between several people who lived in the same apartment.
The caller allegedly told 911 that a man assaulted a woman before threatening them and another roommate with a firearm before returning to the apartment with the victim.
One of the officers who responded to the scene was a member of APD's hostage negotiation team, who was able to facilitate the release of the victim. Officers remained on the scene to negotiate the suspect's surrender, according to police.
APD said that around 1 a.m., the suspect appeared in a doorway and fired multiple shots at officers. One of the officers shot back, hitting the suspect.
Police said the officers performed life-saving measures before medical responders arrived and took the man to a local hospital.
The man, an 18-year-old Aurora resident, later died at the hospital.
The officer who was involved was placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation.
