Planned Parenthood's Mission Bay Mimi Brien Health Center to close early next year

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- On Monday, Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest announced one of its San Diego locations will be closing early next year.

Starting in January, patients of the Mission Bay Mimi Brien Health Center, located at 4501 Mission Bay Dr., will have to seek services elsewhere.

A statement on its website reads, "Please make your next appointment at our nearby Kearny Mesa Joan & Irwin Jacobs Health Center."

According to the organization, the decision behind the closure is part of its "ongoing efforts to streamline operations and ensure that resources are being used as effectively as possible..."

"We are confident that our patients will be able to adequately access their care at our 10 surrounding health centers located throughout San Diego County, including our newly remodeled Kearny Mesa Joan & Irwin Jacobs Center," said Darrah DiGiorgio Johnson, the president and CEO of PPPSW, in a statement.

"We are grateful for our Mission Bay team and their service and commitment to our patients and the Mission Bay community over the past two decades. This step helps us more closely match capacity and demand across our health centers and further our sustainability efforts across our affiliate. We are committed to working collaboratively with Mission Bay staff and SEIU-UHW to support staff through this transition, including by relocating them to other health centers," she continued.
