Pittsfield PD arrests man after pursuit, crash
Anthony Winters, 27, was charged with assault, battery with a dangerous weapon, and motor vehicle offenses.
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- According to the Pittsfield Police Department, a Pittsfield man was arrested following a pursuit on Monday at around 9:30 a.m. Anthony Winters, 27, was charged with assault, battery with a dangerous weapon, and motor vehicle offenses.
The police say they were making a traffic stop when the driver initially stopped but fled the scene. Officers reported that the pursuit traveled from West Street to Jason Street before the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a telephone pole.
Law enforcement says the crash caused a broken pole, a power outage, and a car fire. The suspect allegedly fled on foot before being taken into custody.
The suspect was treated for minor injuries at Berkshire Medical Center. The Pittsfield Fire Department was able to put the fire out but Jason Street was closed for several hours while utility companies restored the power. It reopened around 2:30 p.m.
