The NYPD on Wednesday released surveillance footage of a suspect wanted for stabbing a stranger on a Manhattan subway — and revealed the clash was over spitting on the train.

Police say the two men argued over spitting on a downtown No. 1 train as it neared the 110th St.-Cathedral Parkway station in Harlem about 9:15 a.m. Jan. 1.

As the quarrel escalated, the 30-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times in the head, arm and upper body by the enraged attacker. The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital and is recovering.
