Phelps County parents charged for toddler death from fentanyl poisoning
A man and woman were taken into custody by the Phelps County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday in connection to the death of their 14-month-old daughter in 2023.
PHELPHS COUNTY, Mo. - A man and woman were taken into custody by the Phelps County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday in connection to the death of their 14-month-old daughter in 2023.
According to the Phelps County Sheriff's Department, Caleb Deon, 25, and Corissa Dessie Botkin, 24, were both arrested after their daughter died of fentayl poisoning on March 9, 2023.
Deon and Botkin have both been charged with abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death and are held at the Phelps County Jail.
The investigation is still ongoing, and the Phelps County Sheriff's Department and Phelps County Coroner are asking anyone with information to come forward.
"This is an incredibly heartbreaking situation," said Sheriff Michael P. Kirn for the Phelps County Sheriff's Department on Facebook. "Our primary concern is for the well-being of children in our community, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served in this case."
