SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A 40-year-old woman lost her life Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle while crossing an intersection in the Midway District, authorities said.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the woman was in the crosswalk at the south end of 3700 Camino Del Rio West and 3000 Kurtz Street around 9:30 p.m., despite a "don't walk" signal.
At that same time, police said a dark-colored vehicle was traveling northbound in the left lane of Rosecrans Street, which transitions into Camino Del Rio West at that intersection. The driver of the vehicle, who reportedly had a green light, struck the woman in the crosswalk and fled the scene.
Emergency services responded but the woman sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Traffic Investigation Unit is currently investigating the incident and authorities have not yet determined if driving under the influence was a factor.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the vehicle or the incident to come forward as they work to gather more details surrounding this fatal incident. Calls can be made to Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
