Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux shocked at name being mentioned in trade rumors
Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux responded to his name being mentioned in a trade rumor over the weekend.
FOXBORO — Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux was “shocked” to see his name mentioned in a trade rumor over the weekend.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini wrote that the Patriots will listen to any trade proposal and that Godchaux is a potential target for teams who are buying. The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
“Yeah, I was shocked, but at the end of the day, this is a business,” Godchaux told the Herald. “I mean, (expletive) happens all the time. I’m sure some guys think they could be on the team for a long time, and something happens. This is the business of the NFL. This is what we signed up for.”
Godchaux’s response to the trade rumors is that it’s something out of his control.
“In the media, whatever happens, happens. I’m happy to be here,” Godchaux said. “I’m happy to be a leader. I’m happy to be one of those big dogs in the front seven, but I can’t control outside noise. I’m here. Right now, I’m here where my feet are, and I’m here with New England Patriots. I’m happy to be here.”
Godchaux signed a two-year, $18 million contract extension this offseason with a $10 million signing bonus. The Patriots really don’t have a replacement for him in the middle of their defense as their starting nose tackle. The team’s run defense was struggling until the unit bounced back Sunday.
