Over 3,000 Lives Lost: The Human Cost of the Israel-Hezbollah Conflict in the Past Year

According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, more than 3,000 people have been killed in Lebanon as a result of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has persisted for 13 months. The ministry also reported that at least 13,492 individuals have sustained injuries during this period.

The escalation began shortly after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which subsequently sparked the war in Gaza. In response to the situation, Hezbollah commenced firing rockets into northern Israel the following day. Both Hezbollah and Hamas have established ties with Iran, which plays a significant role in the dynamics of the conflict.

The conflict took a dramatic turn on September 23, when Israel launched extensive airstrikes targeting southern and eastern Lebanon, including the southern suburbs of Beirut. These strikes resulted in hundreds of fatalities and displaced nearly 1.2 million people.

On October 1, Israel initiated a ground invasion of southern Lebanon, which resulted in significant destruction in border villages; however, their ground forces made minimal progress within Lebanon itself. Meanwhile, Hezbollah attacks have claimed the lives of 72 individuals in Israel, including 30 soldiers.
