A 19-year-old San Bernardino resident watched his hard-earned savings and years of work turn into a mangled mess on Saturday afternoon when an out-of-control RV crashed into his and his family’s parked cars.
Surveillance footage captured the moment the RV rammed head-on into and onto Daniel Gallardo’s car, consequently smushing at least two more cars behind his on Del Rosa Avenue.
When the driver then backed up and left Gallardo’s car, he hit three additional vehicles, police confirmed.
The driver, who is believed to live just down the street from Gallardo’s family, was not arrested.
“It’s a total loss,” Gallardo told KTLA’s Shelby Nelson on Friday. “It’s not going to be repairable.”
The 19-year-old said that he and his neighbors witnessed the crash and then followed the driver down the street and tried to confront him. They believe he was driving under the influence.
“We seen that he was all drowsy and we seen his face, his eyes were all popping out, his eyes were so red” explained Gallardo. “When he was saying stuff, he was slurring to me.”
San Bernardino Police said they’ve made several attempts to contact the driver, but did not provide any further information.
Gallardo said he reached out to the driver’s insurance, but that they said the man doesn’t have a policy and that it’s expired.
Without any help from insurance, Gallardo told KTLA he’ll have to buy a new car.
