Emma Dumont has come out as transmasculine and non-binary and is now revealing a new name to the public.
The Oppenheimer actor, who prefers they/them pronouns, revealed the updated name and pronouns on their Instagram profile. “They identify as a trans masculine non-binary person,” Dumont’s rep told TMZ. “Their work name is still going to be Emma Dumont, but they will go by Nick with friends and family.”
While Dumont’s Instagram handle remains @emmadumont, their name is now listed as Nick Dumont.
The 30-year-old hasn’t directly spoken about coming out, but has posted several photos showing off their new look, recently chopping off their previously shoulder length hair into a pixie cut.
Dumont starred with Cillian Murphy in the hit 2023 Oscar winning film, Oppenheimer as Jackie. The actor will appear in an upcoming horror movie, “New Me.” The project doesn’t have a release date yet, but has wrapped up filming.
While Dumont hasn’t spoken about the public’s reaction since coming out, actor Emma Corin, who came out as non-binary in 2022, says they experienced unexpected backlash. “The vitriol is worse than I anticipated,” the actor told Harper’s Bazaar. “Even though we like to think we’re in a progressive society, a lot of what we’re seeing is increasingly a step back.”
The actor, who played Princess Diana on “The Crown”, also noted people find them “controversial.”
“People follow me because they’ve watched something I’m in,” Corin continued. “They think I’m one kind of person, and then they’ll see who I actually am and how I present and—I will never understand why. Who are you hurting by being yourself? Why am I controversial?”
As far as Dumont’s name change, it will only apply to friends and family as Emma will remain their professional name In Hollywood.
