A shooting near the southern reaches of San Diego State University left one person wounded Thursday and another in custody.

The gunfire erupted in the 5200 block of Campanile Drive shortly before 5 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

Patrol personnel arrived to find the victim, described only as male, suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, SDPD Officer Joe Perales said. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was admitted in undisclosed condition.

Less than 10 minutes after the shooting was reported, officers took a possible suspect into custody near the scene of the gunfire. The detainee — also only described as male — was being held for questioning, according to police.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting, Perales said.
