One Direction’s Next Generation: Meet The Band Members' Kids

In the years since One Direction went on their indefinite hiatus, several of the members welcomed babies.

Louis Tomlinson was the first 1D member to become a dad, welcoming son Freddie with ex Briana Jungwirth in January 2016.

“I think the only way you’re ready is through experience,” Tomlinson said during a July 2017 interview on the U.K.’s Lorraine show. “You realize it is intimidating, but it’s also the most rewarding thing in the world,”

One year after Freddie was born, Tomlinson’s bandmate Liam Payne and his now-ex Cheryl Cole welcomed their son, Bear Grey. Zayn Malik’s ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid later gave birth to their only child together, daughter Khai, in September 2020.

Fellow members of One Direction Niall Horan and Harry Styles are the only musicians who have yet to expand their families.

Payne, for his part, died in October 2024 at the age of 31. In a heartfelt social media statement, Tomlinson shared a message for the late singer and a promise to always watch over his son.

“I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me I will be the uncle he needs in his life and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was,” Tomlinson wrote in part. “I wish I got the chance to say goodbye and tell you one more time how much I loved you.”
