(KRON) -- Two dozen people were displaced after a fire swept through a multi-family residential building in Pleasant Hill on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
Multiple callers reported seeing flames and smoke coming from the roof of Viking Park Apartments at 2079 Norse Drive. Responding firefighters confirmed the smoke coming from the eves of the building, and the call was upgraded to a second-alarm fire.
Firefighters completed a search of the building and worked an offensive attack as the flames spread in the attic space, Con Fire said. The blaze was knocked down in less than half an hour.
The fire partially destroyed two apartment units and severely damaged eight others.
The cause, Con Fire said, was determined to be from a plumber doing hot work in one of the residence’s bathrooms.
Sixteen adults and eight children were displaced due to the fire, and the Red Cross was called to provide assistance. There were no injuries reported, officials said.
