Oat Willie's smoke shop to close after 56 years in business

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A longtime Austin smoke shop is closing its doors for good after 56 years in business.

Oat Willie's -- a full-service smoke shop and novelty store business that's been around since 1968, according to its website -- will soon be no longer.

The shop has been making social media posts about store closing sales over the last several weeks, with the first mention of the imminent closure happening on Facebook and Instagram posts on Sept. 30.

Its last day of business will be Nov. 2, per a recent post. Some discounts that were listed as part of the closing sale included 50% off clothing, scarves, jewelry and socks; 30% off lighters; 40% off glass water pipes and hand pipes; 50% off gifts, toys, jars, kitchen items, and candles; 50% off books; and several other markdowns.

Oat Willie's at one point had multiple locations, but its last one stands at 1931 E. Oltorf Street.

A user on Instagram commented on one of the store's closing sale posts asking if this location's closure meant that the smoke shop was going out of business completely. "Wait -- if this store is closing and the one on Cameron is already closed, does that mean all of em are now closed down?"

The Oat Willie's account responded simply: "yep!"
