(KRON) – A Novato resident has been arrested for four counts of sexual assault, according to the Novato Police Department.
The department was alerted to a child sexual assault that occurred years ago. The victim, who is now 12, was interviewed by the department’s child forensic detective and determined critical information about the assault.
Novato PD identified the suspect as 38-year-old Novato resident Oseas Hernandez Cotuc.
Police said detectives interviewed several witnesses and gathered evidence to establish probable cause for arrest.
Cotuc was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail on four different child sexual assault charges on Jan. 9. Cotuc’s bail, according to Novato police, was set at $1 million.
Novato police thanked the forensic interview center Jeanette Prandi Children’s Center and the Marin County District Attorney’s Office for the agencies’ support in this case.
The department encouraged victims to report their abuse.
“We encourage all victims of sexual assault to reach out to an officer and file a police report by calling 415-897-4361, as this can play a crucial role in reducing such crimes in our community,” said NPD.
