Just over a mile south of Castle Rock’s Plum Creek Parkway, two semitrailers are blocking northbound I-25, Colorado State Patrol trooper Sherri Mendez said. She said one of the semitrailers crashed into the median, but it’s unclear why the second is blocking multiple lanes of the interstate.

According to Colorado Department of Transportation road cameras, as of 10:50 a.m., traffic was at a standstill at the scene of the crash while emergency responders worked to move the semitrailers out of the way. Multiple Waze users reported the backup spread from Exit 181 for Plum Creek Parkway to Exit 174 for Tomah Road, near Dawson Butte.

Northbound I-25 is covered in snow at the crash scene, but investigators aren’t sure if winter weather conditions caused the crash.

On the other side of the highway, traffic is back and moving — albeit slowly — on southbound I-25, according to CDOT cameras around 10:50 a.m. The southbound interstate was also closed Monday morning for a three-vehicle hit-and-run crash, but the roadway reopened around 10:10 a.m., according to CDOT officials.

Mendez said the southbound I-25 crash happened around 9:25 a.m. and involved a hatchback car, a gas-tanker semitrailer and a white pickup truck, which fled the scene. One driver reported minor injuries, but Mendez said no one was taken to the hospital.
