New details on the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 have emerged, shedding light on its specifications and potential features. While the leaked specs suggest that the console may lag behind its competitors in raw power, some promising elements may still make it an attractive option for Nintendo enthusiasts.
Specs reveal underwhelming power
Recent leaks, sourced from Paul Eccleston, also known as RedGamingTech on YouTube, and Korean outlet United Daily News, have unveiled a set of specifications for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2.
According to these unconfirmed reports, the upcoming console will be powered by an eight-core Cortex-A78AE processor equipped with 10 streaming multiprocessors (SMs), 8GB of RAM, and a relatively modest 64GB of eMMC storage. While these specs represent an improvement over the original Nintendo Switch, they fall short of matching the current consoles, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The leaked information suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2’s docked visuals will be “roughly on par with the PlayStation 4,” although direct comparisons are not straightforward.
One notable aspect of the leak is the suggestion that the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a 7-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, this contradicts previous rumors that Nintendo would stick with an LCD panel for its next gaming system. If this OLED display with a high refresh rate proves accurate, it could provide players with a more vibrant and smoother gaming experience.
Backward compatibility and possible two models
Despite the underwhelming specifications, there are some potential upsides to the Nintendo Switch 2. Eccleston’s sources indicate that the console will be fully backward compatible, not only with the existing library of Nintendo Switch games but also with many accessories designed for the original hybrid hardware.
Additionally, there are speculations about the possibility of releasing two Nintendo Switch 2 models: a standard version and a more powerful “Switch 2 Pro.” The upgraded Pro version could boast 12GB of RAM and 12 SMs, offering improved performance over the base model.
Cautious optimism for the Switch 2 Pro
While a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro could address some of the performance concerns associated with the base model, Eccleston advises caution regarding its existence. He suggests that Nintendo has a history of canceling projects, and there’s no guarantee that the Switch 2 Pro will materialize. The company might opt for simplicity by releasing only one Nintendo Switch 2 SKU.
It is crucial to emphasize that all the information regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 remains speculative until officially confirmed by Nintendo. Nothing in the leaked information can be regarded as a confirmed fact. Nintendo has not yet made any official announcements regarding the next iteration of their popular gaming console.
The anticipation continues
The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to be a topic of anticipation and speculation among gamers. With various sources suggesting that the successor to the best-selling Nintendo Switch may launch in the near future, fans are eagerly awaiting official information from Nintendo.
As the gaming community anxiously awaits the official unveiling, hopes remain high that the internal specifications of the Nintendo Switch 2 will prove to be more impressive than the ones outlined in this recent leak.
