BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Niagara Falls man on parole was sentenced to over a decade in prison on a gun charge for shooting at a house during a party in 2023, the Erie County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

Vincent Smith, 37, was sentenced to 12 years to life in prison as a persistent violent felony offender. He fired a shot into a house during a party on Riverdale Avenue in Tonawanda. He had been escorted out of the Jan. 29, 2023 party after he pointed the gun, which was illegal, at somebody during an altercation and fired a shot into the floor.

He pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon on Oct. 20, 2023.

Smith had previously been convicted of criminal possession of a weapon, according to the New York State Parolee Lookup service. He had been released to parole on that charge in January 2022.
