New overnight warming spaces open for unsheltered in St. Paul
Winter Warming Spaces will have seating, blankets, light snacks and, when available, mittens and hats.
As bitter temperatures arrive in the Twin Cities, people who are unsheltered can stay warm overnight in several new Winter Warming Spaces in St. Paul.
Ramsey County announced Tuesday that three Winter Warming Spaces will open this week for people to seek shelter from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. every night. The shelters will continue to operate through March 31.
Winter Warming Spaces will have seating, blankets, light snacks (such as coffee and cocoa) and, when available, warming supplies (such as mittens and hats) for anyone staying the night. There will be a free shuttle service from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day, ensuring transportation to and from Winter Warming Space locations.
The following spaces will open Wednesday night:
- For women: Holy Christian Cathedral Church, 125 Stevens St. W.
- For single men: Phalen Activity Center, 1530 Phalen Drive, and Newell Park Building, 900 Fairview Ave. N.
A warming shelter for families and youth up to 24 years old will open Sunday at St. Paul-Reformation Lutheran Church, 100 Oxford St. N.
For those who need immediate shelter Tuesday night, the Law Enforcement Center at 425 Grove St. in St. Paul will be open until 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
