New nursing program at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The University at Albany announced that it will now have a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program for aspiring nurses. It will be through UAlbany's College of Integrated Health Sciences.

This new program is in partnership with St. Peters Health Partners and it is called the "1+2+1 program." Students can simultaneously work towards an Associate Degree in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Aspiring nurses in the program spend their first year completing prerequisite and foundational nursing classes before moving on to lab and clinical experiences at St. Peter's Health Partners locations in years two and three. The on-site learning includes departments such as rehabilitation, labor and delivery, medical-surgical, geriatrics, and more.

At the end of year three, students National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), and with successful licensure students will be eligible to start practicing while finishing out the rest of the program. Year four's courses will be mostly remote to allow students flexibility with work-school balance.

“UAlbany’s integrated approach ensures that students gain both academic knowledge and real-world clinical experience,” said Cassandra Marshall, director of nursing at UAlbany. “With small class sizes and hands-on learning opportunities, students will be prepared to succeed in diverse healthcare settings. In addition to academic rigor, we offer guaranteed job placement at local healthcare facilities, ensuring our graduates are ready to enter the workforce as skilled, compassionate nurses.
