GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Life partners Lauren Day and Dan Lentini always dreamed of opening up their own brick-and-mortar business. That dream is coming true as they're opening up Sage & Cedar at 33 N. Main Street in Gloversville.
"Dan brings a wealth of skills in carpentry and historic restoration, while I have a passion for design and art," Day told NEWS10. "Both of us have accumulated experience in the restaurant industry since we were young."
Day used to manage North Star, a cafe that was located in the same building before it closed. After that, Day and Lentini bought the historic property, from the late 1800s, and began restoring it. Day said the front entry now includes 1930s iron and glass doors from Pennsylvania.
"The renovation process has been tough, primarily because we did all the work ourselves, but we take immense pride in the result," said Day. "To us, this building is a treasure, and we can’t wait to share it with the public."
Sage & Cedar will offer specialty bowls and sandwiches. Day said they have plans to eventually add entrées and a brunch buffet on Sundays. The restaurant will be open for lunch and early dinner service.
Day said they are just about done with construction and are awaiting code inspection. They plan to open Sage & Cedar in March.
"We are excited to be part of Gloversville’s renewal of parks and other businesses. There's so much to look forward to," said Day. "This wouldn’t have been possible without the support from funding and grant programs provided by our city."
