Multiple Vehicles Destroyed in Otay Mesa Wrecking Yard Fire
Units were dispatched to a multi-vehicle fire around 7:55 a.m. Sunday to 945 Heritage Rd, less than a block from San Diego Auto Wrecking.
Heavy fog and a lack of water slowed progress on fighting a multi-vehicle fire at a wrecking yard in an industrial part of Otay Mesa on Sunday morning.
Units were dispatched around 7:55 a.m. Sunday to 945 Heritage Rd, less than a block from San Diego Auto Wrecking.
Heavy fog made it difficult to initially track down the fire, which spread to another junkyard, burning at least ten vehicles in all.
The closest hydrant was a mile from the blaze, so firefighters had to call in a water tanker and more engines for additional water, according to Onscene.Media.
A total of 33 personnel were assigned to the fire, including five engines, one truck, and one medic, said officials with San Diego Fire-Rescue. Personnel from the city of Chula Vista assisted in the effort.
No injuries or evacuations were immediately reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
