(KRON) -- A person who fled from Fremont police on a stolen motorcycle on Saturday was killed after hitting a curb and fence and being ejected from the bike, authorities said Tuesday.
Fremont Police Department officers were alerted at 3:30 p.m. to the stolen motorcycle by a license plate reader near Stevenson Boulevard and Balentine Place. Approximately 20 minutes later, an officer in a marked patrol car located the motorcycle and initiated a traffic stop as the rider turned onto southbound Nobel Drive, Fremont PD said.
Once the officer activated their emergency lights, the motorcyclist sped away at a high rate of speed, authorities said. According to police, the officer deactivated the emergency lights and did not pursue the motorcyclist.
Shortly after, the motorcyclist struck a curb and a chain link fence on Bunche Drive before being ejected from the motorcycle, according to the Fremont PD Traffic Investigations Unit. Police and Fremont Fire Department personnel provided life-saving measures but were ultimately unsuccessful. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The person has not yet been identified as of Tuesday. The motorcycle was confirmed by Fremont PD to be stolen.
The incident marks Fremont’s 13th fatal traffic collision in 2024.
