More than 100 flights already canceled at DIA
If you have plans to fly to and from the Denver International Airport on Friday and Saturday, be sure to check the status of your flight before you head out the door.
DENVER (KDVR) — If you have plans to fly to and from the Denver International Airport on Friday and Saturday, be sure to check the status of your flight before you head out the door.
A heavy snow system is returning to Colorado Friday morning, and it could bring nearly two feet of accumulation to some areas.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis declared a disaster emergency on Thursday and authorized unarmed Colorado National Guard members to provide winter storm response support.
While this storm is expected to taper off by Saturday afternoon, the effects will cause problems for travelers at DIA.
On Friday morning, DIA posted on X that the snow removal teams were ready to tackle the incoming weather. They asked travelers to add extra time to get to the airport. However, you might be staying home as more than a hundred flights have already been canceled.
According to FlightAware at 6:15 a.m., 20 flights at DIA were delayed and 179 were canceled.
A majority of the canceled flights were from SkyWest Airline. Frontier had the second most cancelations at 26 flights.
When it comes to delays, Southwest had the most with 10 flights.
While nearly 180 canceled flights can seem like a lot, DIA is not the worst airport in the U.S. on Friday.
FlightAware has a "Misery Map" that shows which airports have the most problems on any given day. DIA had the fourth most problems, but it was faring better than the Atlanta, Dallas and New York City airports.
Travelers can check the status of their flight through their airline or on DIA's website.
