ST. LOUIS - An exclusive special report is focusing on Missouri's Amendment 2, which voters will see on their general election ballots. FOX 2 discussed with top supporters and opponents, along with the Missouri Gaming Commission and a journalist who covers the gaming industry nationwide.
The 30-minute program features interviews with team presidents from the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues, both of whom are urging voters to approve the measure on Nov. 5.
We look at polling and who’s supplying the tens of millions of dollars flooding into the campaign. The biggest donors in favor of the amendment have been sports gaming giants DraftKings and FanDuel, as well as their parent companies.
The report also features opposing views. A group called Missourians Against the Online Gambling Amendment (heavily funded by Missouri casinos that are owned/operated by Caesars), claims the campaign supporting Amendment 2 makes false claims about the amount of tax revenue that will be generated to support Missouri schools.
We look at seven of the eight states surrounding Missouri that already have legalized sports gaming and how much tax revenue it’s generating there.
Finally, FOX 2’s political team, Hancock and Kelley, weigh in on all of the issues involved with the amendment and whether they think we’ll be able to place bets from our cell phones after election day.
