Michelin-starred Korean chef opens steakhouse in downtown SF

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- This month, Michelin-starred chef Akira Back opened a steakhouse in downtown San Francisco. ABSteak in Union Square held its grand opening on Oct. 8, the restaurant announced on Instagram.
ABSteak is located at 124 Ellis St. inside Hotel Fusion. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Thursday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, it is open from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m.
The steakhouse spans 6,500 square feet and includes private dining rooms, according to SF Union Square's social media. Tables at the establishment have a grill for cooking meat, which is seen at a typical Korean BBQ restaurant.
ABSteak serves meats domestically and from Japan and Australia. It also serves traditional Korean dishes such as bibimbap and kimchi.
Chef Back was born in Seoul, Korea and raised in Aspen, Colo. Before becoming a chef, Back was a professional snowboarder for seven years, according to his bio. He has made a name for himself internationally with more than 310,000 followers on Instagram -- receiving a Michelin star for his restaurant, Dosa, in Seoul.
ABSteak has locations across the globe, including Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Seoul, Bangkok, Istanbul and Singapore.
