Michael O'Brien's Super 25 high school basketball rankings for Dec. 8, 2024

It's always awkward to depose the top-ranked team when it didn't lose. Bolingbrook had a nice week with wins against Kankakee and Oswego. The Raiders are playing well without two starters. But Kenwood's start to the season is worthy of the No. 1 spot. The Broncos beat Warren and DePaul Prep and look the part of the best team in the area right now. Warren tumbles from No. 2 to No. 9 after losing to Waukegan and Kenwood. Those are quality losses, but the Blue Devils will be without Javerion Banks for awhile, which is a major hole to fill. Waukegan was the toughest team to rank this week. The Bulldogs stormed into Gurnee and beat Warren. They were set up for a huge leap in the rankings but lost to Christ the King on Saturday. But the victory at Warren showed the high ceiling Waukegan has this season. Glenbard West is the only new addition. The Hilltoppers knocked off three Super 25-caliber teams in a row: DeKalb, Hinsdale Central and Stevenson. Hinsdale Central falls out after that loss.
