Massachusetts woman killed in shooting: 'Shocking act of violence... heartbreaking'
A 32-year-old local woman was killed in a shooting Friday morning, according to the Suffolk DA who called the fatal attack a “shocking act of violence.”
Melissa Janvier Pablo died after the shooting in Chelsea at around 8:45 a.m. on Friday.
Massachusetts State Police assigned to Suffolk DA’s office and Chelsea Police are investigating following the deadly shooting near the intersection of Central Avenue and Marginal Street, by the TownePlace Suites.
The alleged shooter reportedly ran from the scene and fled in a car. A man has been detained, and was being interviewed in connection with the shooting, the DA’s Office said.
The preliminary investigation indicates that this was not a random shooting, Chelsea Police said.
When a Chelsea police officer responded to the shooting, the cop found Pablo lying on the ground. Pablo was transported to MGH, where she was later pronounced dead.
Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden offered his condolences to Pablo’s loved ones, and said there was no apparent threat to the public.
“Losing someone so young to such a shocking act of violence is heartbreaking for family and friends and for our entire community,” Hayden said. “I thank everyone who is working on this tragic case and I offer my deepest condolences to all those who knew and loved Melissa Pablo.”
