Man taken into police custody for May shooting that injured 1
Police arrested a man Saturday in connection to a shooting on May 18 that left an adult male victim with non-life-threatening injuries.
DENVER (KDVR) — Police arrested a man Saturday in connection to a shooting on May 18 that left an adult male victim with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting occurred in the 2200 block of East Bruce Randolph Avenue at about 11:27 p.m. Police said on X that a juvenile had been arrested in connection to the shooting, but on Tuesday, the agency said officers had arrested a 51-year-old man in connection to the incident.
Kevin Gayton is under investigation for a number of charges in the shooting, including:
- Attempted first-degree murder
- Attempted first-degree murder - extreme indifference
- First-degree assault with a deadly weapon
- First-degree assault - extreme indifference
- Possession of a weapon by a previous offender
- Illegal discharge of a firearm
Police said there was a verbal altercation between Gayton and "unknown individuals" that then escalated into a shooting.
Official charges have not been filed. Gayton is being held at the Denver Downtown Detention Center.
