Man shot, wounded in 'verbal altercation' near Loyola University
A man was wounded in a shooting across the street from Loyola University in Rogers Park on Monday afternoon, Chicago police said.The man, 24, was walking with two other men in the 1200 block of West Loyola Avenue at 2:09 p.m. when a man approached them, and a verbal altercation started, police said. The man then shot at the other three with a handgun.The 24-year-old was shot in the right arm and taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in fair condition. A 28-year-old man who police initially said was shot suffered cuts to his hand and was also taken to St. Francis in good condition, police said. The alleged shooter, Tevon Jackson, who has a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card and concealed carry license, was arrested in the 6400 block of North Sheridan Road shortly afterward, police said. A firearm was recovered at the scene.Jackson, 24, is charged with two felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.In a post on Facebook, Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) said the shooting was unrelated to the recent shootings at the Howard and Morse Red Line stops, and had been spurred by an "interpersonal conflict" after the alleged shooter was hit in the face with a glass jar, which cut him."The scene is under investigation, but things are safe," Hadden said in a video posted on Facebook. "This is an interpersonal dispute related shooting, this is not related to anything that happened at Morse or Howard in the last week and isn't anything we expect to evolve beyond two adult men who weren't able to resolve a conflict, and somebody who decided to fire a gun in public with a lot of people around."
