Man killed in I-8 multi-vehicle crash identified
A multi-vehicle collision last week on westbound Interstate 8 near San Diego State University resulted in the death of a man.
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A multi-vehicle collision last week on westbound Interstate 8 near San Diego State University resulted in the death of a man.
Tobin Alan Armstrong, 43, was identified as the deceased, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said on its website.
On the morning of Jan. 26, a pickup truck stalled on the left shoulder of westbound I-8, located just east of the Waring Road off-ramp. That vehicle was struck in the back by a Nissan sedan driven by Armstrong.
As a passerby attempted to remove Armstrong from his vehicle, another pickup truck traveling westbound crashed into the Nissan, causing Armstrong to be ejected from his vehicle, according to California Highway Patrol. The impact also caused the bystander to fall backwards to the roadway.
Armstrong was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The collision prompted traffic backed up for miles.
