Man hit in the head with a rock during clash in Manhattan subway station

A man was bashed in the head with a rock during a disturbing midday assault in a Manhattan subway station Wednesday, police said.
Cops and EMS responded to a 12:33 p.m. call about an altercation at the West Village subway stop at W. 14th St. and Eighth Ave., finding a 56-year-old man who’d been hit in the head with a rock.
The assailant took off, and there were no immediate arrests, police said. It was unclear what sparked the clash.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was in stable condition, cops said.
