SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A 46-year-old man who was fatally shot in Southcrest the night before Thanksgiving has been identified by authorities.

The victim, a Hispanic man named Manual Correa, was found lying on the ground with at least one gunshot wound in an alley in the 3700 block of National Avenue on Nov. 27, 2024. Despite first-aid from bystanders and life-saving measures by paramedics, the man, who was a nearby resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

San Diego Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and are currently investigating the shooting. Based on evidence and witness testimony gathered so far, authorities say it appears the victim got into a verbal altercation with a group of people standing in a nearby parking lot. Both the victim and a male in the group reportedly pulled out handguns and began shooting at each other.

That's when the victim was fatally struck by gunfire. It's unknown at this time if the other male was hit, police said. The group was reported to have fled the scene after the shooting, with some of them leaving in a white Lexus. Detectives worked to identify that vehicle and placed it in the alert system for the automated license plate reader (ALPR) system.

Later on Dec. 4, 2024, the ALPR system alerted that the vehicle was in the Ridgeview/Webster neighborhood, police explained. Patrol officers located the vehicle in the driveway of a residence in the 1700 block of 49th Street. Several people at the residence were detained and the Lexus
was impounded as evidence. The residence was then searched following a search warrant.

According to the department, a male was detained was ultimately arrested for firearms and narcotics charges following the raid, though he's not believed to be a suspect in this homicide.

The nature of the initial altercation and motive for this shooting is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

No further information the suspect is available a this time.
