Man Dies After Being Attacked By His Own Dogs at Mira Mesa Park
All three dogs were subsequently signed over to San Diego Humane Society by a second owner, who agreed to have them euthanized.
One man is dead after his own dogs attacked him at a neighborhood park on Friday afternoon, also leaving another person injured when they tried to intervene.
The San Diego Humane Society said that they received a call from the San Diego Police Department at 12:13 p.m. Friday asking for their assistance with a dog attack.
Humane Society officers helped SDPD find and secure three dogs at Mesa Viking Neighborhood Park after the attack and placed them under mandatory bite quarantine.
On Dec. 14, Humane Officers were able to find a second person who had been bitten while trying to help the first victim. That person was transported to the hospital and is now recovering.
They were also able to find video footage showing the dogs’ owner walking the three dogs toward the park, about two hours before the Humane Society received the call for assistance from SDPD.
All three dogs were subsequently signed over to San Diego Humane Society by a second owner, who agreed to have them euthanized.
There is no previous history involving the dogs in San Diego Humane Society’s records.
Rabies testing will be completed as is standard.
“Our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to the victim’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the San Diego Humane Society said in a statement.
