ST. LOUIS – After being on the run for more than six years, a St. Louis man appeared Tuesday in U.S. District Court and admitted to robbing a credit union in the city’s Tower Grove East neighborhood.
Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said FBI agents located and arrested Daniel Harris, 66, in Phoenix, Arizona, on Aug. 9, 2023.
Harris robbed the St. Louis Community Credit Union in the 4400 block of Chippewa Street on March 15, 2017. He was indicted on Oct. 11, 2017.
Harris admitted to approaching a teller and placing a demand note on the counter. Harris left the bank with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
Investigators said Harris disposed of the baseball cap and two jackets he wore into the credit union a short distance from the building. Authorities found a receipt in one of the jacket pockets with Harris’ name on it. A family member and a former employer confirmed Harris’ identity from security camera images from the credit union.
Harris pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine when he’s sentenced on March 4, 2025.
