DENVER (KDVR) — A homeless man, Early Jackson, was awarded more than $1 million in a settlement after he was assaulted in January of 2022, according to a legal team representing Jackson.

A jury decided to vote in Jackson's favor after reviewing footage from the night that showed the incident that occurred.

Jackson was reportedly told that he could come into the lobby of an apartment complex on 17th Street and Curtis Street, on a cold night in January of 2022 in order to briefly warm up. Not long after entering, footage showed two concierges, one appearing to hold a gun, according to the attorneys representing Jackson, push Jackson out of a chair before dragging him out of the apartment complex's lobby doors.

Surveillance footage from the apartment building was deleted but body cam footage from Denver police officers captured the incident.

"The real hindrance in this case was that the video evidence was destroyed about a week after Mr. Jackson was assaulted," said a member of the legal team representing Jackson. "Fortunately, portions of it were captured on Denver police officer's body camera videos and that evidence is what allowed the jury to determine what happened here."

The attorneys representing Jackson also said that without this footage, Early Jackson’s more than $1 million settlement never would have seen “the light of day.”

FOX31 reached out to both the property management company, as well as to Jackson but has not received an immediate statement from either party.
