SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection to the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. According to a briefing from officials Monday, the man has ties to San Francisco.
Luigi Mangione was identified by the New York City Police Department as a person of interest in last week's shooting.
Police took the man into custody after receiving a tip that he'd been spotted at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania. The man had a weapon consistent with the gun used to kill Thompson, according to New York's police commissioner.
The weapon was described as a "ghost gun," which may have been made on a 3D printer.
Mangione was born and raised in Maryland, but has ties to San Francisco, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny. His last known address was Honolulu, Hawaii.
Mangione will face gun charges in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where he was arrested. "And at some point, we'll work out through extradition to bring him back to New York to face charges, here, working with the Manhattan district attorney's office," said Kenny.
