Schools in Malibu will remain closed through Friday due to the active Franklin Fire and road closures in the area, the school district officials announced Thursday.
Webster Elementary, Malibu Elementary, Malibu Middle and Malibu High School are the schools that will remain closed, according to the Santa Monica - Malibu Unified School District.
“Malibu Elementary, Malibu Middle, and Malibu High schools all were spared from any damage; however, thorough cleaning by a professional restoration and cleaning company must be completed prior to reopening schools,” an email to parents shared with media outlets said.
Officials also shared that they hope to begin the cleaning procedure on Friday and reopen schools by Monday. If this happens, parents will be notified via email on Sunday.
The Franklin Fire has burned over 4,000 acres and is 20% contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
