The man, identified by the Long Beach Police Department as 32-year-old Dwayne Walton, was shot just before 1:15 p.m. in the 900 block of Via Carmelitos, police said in a news release.
He had sustained "life-threatening gunshot wounds" when officers arrived, and despite life-saving efforts, he was declared dead at the scene.
"The motive for the shooting and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation," the release said.
