AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A longtime educator was recognized for her service to local students. Dr. Nellie Bush received the Edward R. Dyer Award for Distinguished School Board Service from the New York State School Boards Association.
Dr. Bush has worked in the Greater Amsterdam School District in several roles, including as a special education teacher, a principal, and most recently, as a school board member. She has served as a mentor for other educators and worked with local media organizations to highlight student accomplishments.
"I've always wanted to do what was in the best interest of the students, the children, the teachers, the staff, and especially, the school district," Dr. Bush told NEWS10. "And when I found out about this award, my first reaction was, 'Oh, isn't this wonderful. I can bring some positive recognition to the city of Amsterdam, New York."
Some of her students wrote cards and letters to congratulate her on the award.
