Long wait times for voters at St. Clair County Courthouse

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – There were no long wait times in St. Clair County, Illinois, on Election Day, except at one location – the St. Clair County Courthouse.
Wait times are only about five minutes at most locations across the county, according to St. Clair County Clerk Tom Holbrook, who visited 25 precincts on Tuesday.
But at the courthouse, the entire third floor is handling call-ins from the precincts while people in line on the second floor are waiting upwards of an hour to vote. Many in line have had some sort of issue with registration.
Holbrook said election judges were helping resolve the problems.
“We have a large turnout. We've had over 65,000 people out of 160,000 already early voting,” Holbrook said. “So, there’s a lot of interest in this election, and a lot of people haven't voted in a while, and they're showing up. We have a system in place to get them registered or see if they've registered somewhere else. And we're getting them registered so they can vote, if eligible.”
Polls in Illinois close at 7 p.m.
