Long lines, missed flights and delays: The post-holiday travel rush is hitting LAX hard

We're approaching the end of the holiday season, which means that it's time for mayhem in the airports.

Los Angeles International Airport was no exception on Friday. AAA estimated last week that this holiday travel season would be the busiest on record, and those at LAX were feeling that rush.

KTLA's Jacqueline Sarkissian spoke to several travelers who experienced a rough morning on Friday.

Some of those people were traveling domestically, where some poor weather across the country forced delays.

One family told Sarkissian that their entire New Year's ski trip was in jeopardy after their flight to Colorado was canceled. Another woman told her that her flight to Newark, New Jersey was delayed several hours and she wasn't sure when she'd ever board the flight.

The stress of issues like that is compounded when your stop at the busy LAX was simply for an international layover. The customs line at the airport took several hours to get through, some travelers told Sarkissian, and that made several travelers miss their connecting flights.

One Australian man told Sarkissian that he missed his connecting flight to Vancouver due to the customs line, and he wasn't sure if there was another flight to his destination on Friday.

"We could be stuck here all night in the airport," he said, adding that he's already going to miss tours that were booked in Canada for Friday.

The line to then get another flight through their airlines was also a long one. That stress plus the exhaustion of taking a several-hours flight from Australia or Asia made Friday an unbearable travel day for some.
